Manchin, Massey Executives to Hold Meetings With EPA Officials This Week

Reylas Surface Mine in Logan County of particular concern.

CHARLESTON -- Both Governor Manchin and Massey Energy will be holding meetings with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency later this week regarding a Massey operation.

The EPA said last week it intends to review a permit that would allow for an extension of mountaintop mining operations at the Reylas Surface Mine in Logan County.

The Agency says it is concerned about the possibility of nearby water quality being affected by surface mining.

Coal is a depleting resource, and almost gone. What is WV suppose to do then. The thing to do, is plan for it now, and not wait for the power to go off, before thinking how our kids, and their kids, are going to move out the dark ages that we are living in. Coal also keeps the lights on in our funeral homes. Coal kills on every cycle.

I just spoke to with a lady from Raleigh county, who claims she is against coal/mountaintop removal, but in the next breath says it has supported her throughout her life...what are these communities thinking? I was raised right by the a coal prep plant and my father was a coal miner, what is there going to be for WV...welfare & unemployment that our coal industry has paid into so that all you dead beats can sit around and draw a check and complain about anything and everything that is actually keeping our state financially stable. I wonder what God thinks when He looks down at this great state and the people who are complaining about a natural resource that He created here on earth so that we may provide for our families and communities....I bet it makes Him sad to see what this world has become.... What an embarrassment. Joe Manchin. the governor who doesn't care would sell the last square foot of WV if Massey wanted to buy it. When is he going to meet with people affected by mountain top removal and try to help them. How many of you wish you had voted for Jesse Johnson now? When will West Virginians quit voting against their own interest?

Everyone wants to stop mountain top removal. But what many of these people tend to forget are the thousands of jobs that will be directly and indirectly lost. These people also tend to forget that their electricity runs from coal. And yes the computer that you are leaving internet comments on is ran off of electricity. You want to complain about coal, then be a true environmentalist - get rid of your electricity and your internet. Get rid of any and everything that runs from coal. You people want to put windmills in. Well what happens when we are killing off all of our birds and bats that mistakenly fly into them.

I hope the EPA comes to Prenter and has a look and smell of our water. Then can they look us in the eye and say it's perfectly good water?

I hope the epa remembers that Gov. Manchin does NOT have the best interests of West Virginians on his agenda.
