Concord University is celebrating their 8th annual Relay for Life event

Story by Kate Krivanek

Athens -- A Mercer County university is doing their part to help fund cancer research.

Concord University in Athens, hosted their 8th annual Relay for Life fundraiser on Saturday. The event had a carnival theme. Students put together booths and games to help raise money. All the funds collected today will go to benefit the American Cancer Society, according to event organizers.

Angie Edwards is one of the sponsors from Concord University. "It does hit home in a lot of places and a lot of ways. Here at Concord, the kids get together," said Edwards. "It is a nice way for them to give back to the community as far as going out and doing some type of community service."

This year's Relay event at Concord University is in memory of Chuck Marshall, a former student at the school, who died of cancer this past summer.

Concord's goal this year is to raise 18 thousand dollars to help fight cancer.
