Athens -- Students at a Mercer County college will be living in boxes, all to raise awareness about homelessness.
Starting Friday morning, Concord College opened its annual Box City. Students with different organizations across campus paid to set up makeshift homes made completely out of cardboard boxes and tarps. Participants say the goal is to make people realize anyone can be homeless at any time.
"It was very windy, so like, tarps were flying everywhere and we were trying to stake it in the ground. Once we got that under control it rained. So, our boxes got a little wet and they flew everywhere. But, it's sunny now. So, it's good," said participant Tiffany Shaver.
Students will live in the boxes until Saturday morning at 8 a.m. All proceeds from the project will be given to Scottie's Place, a wilderness camp for homeless children in Monroe County.
