BECKLEY- -- Raleigh General Hospital is recognized by the West Virginia Breastfeeding Alliance with a statewide award.
Tuesday the facility hosted a tea for staff to celebrate the honor. Raleigh General is on the platinum level, meaning it's known as a work-place that provides areas and opportunities for moms to breast-feed.
Tuesday's tea gave women the chance to share some refreshments and take a brief break from work. They were also provided with some educational materials on the benefits of breastfeeding.
"Breastfeeding is so much better for the baby from the point of immunities when the mother first nurses her baby right after birth, it's just full of immunity. So, it's like her baby gets an immunization every time she nurses." said Kathy Bailey, RN
August is designated as National Breast-feeding Awareness month.
August 1st through the 7th is Awareness Week. Governor Joe Manchin recognized several businesses Monday at a banquet for their efforts to support moms who breast-feed.
