County Commission taking information under advisement.
By Alicia Suka
BECKLEY -- The Raleigh County Commission considers a plan to build a wind farm and bio-mass facilities.
Eric Mathis, with the "JOBS" project presented information to the commission today.
"JOBS" stands for Just and Open Businesses that are Sustainable.
It's an organization that works to create community owned, renewable energy products.
Mathis says constructing a small wind-farm and building a biomass facility would create clean and carbon-neutral energy.
In the process, timbering bi-products would regenerated into pellets and burned the same way coal is.
Mathis says it will create several jobs for the region.
"These facilities we're looking at right now are anywhere from 20,000 to 40,000 tons per year. Each facility is right at five or six jobs per facility for the bio-mass," said Mathis.
Mathis says investors are interested, so it wouldn't cost the commission anything.
The group was just looking for non-fundable support.
The County Commission says they're taking the issue under advisement.
