Wednesday's event is an annual tradition for Bluefield College.

BLUEFIELD- -- Bluefield College officially kicked of the start of its academic year earlier Wednesday morning with its annual President's Convocation.

Faculty, staff, alumni and students were all present for a formal greeting by school president Dr. David Olive.

59 news caught up President Olive and he talked about why the convocation is important. "To call community together for the start of the academic year and vies us the opportunity as a campus community to come together and recognize the importance of work that's ahead of us in the coming year." said Dr. David Olive, Bluefield College President.

Other speakers included Bluefield College's New Vice President of Academic Affairs Robert Shippey, Secretary of the Board of Trustees Julie Johnson and Student Government President Mandy Davis.
