Teenagers are stepping up at local high schools.

MACARTHUR --  Some organizations across southern West Virginia say they're struggling for help.

They don't need money, they need volunteers.

Dale Fitzpatrick of Crab Orchard is a member of his local Lions Club.

He says the group's membership is down and recruiting help for service projects is a challenge.

Fitzpatrick says Lions Club chapters in surrounding communities have stopped and membership in the Beckley chapter is limited.

He says other civic groups in the region are having trouble getting help as well.

"I've talked to other clubs, civitan, rotary, the other organizations and they're losing members. When the older ones die, they're not being replaced by younger people. So, there's a great need for people to get out and help," said Fitzpatrick.

Some suggests working with teenagers to get them involved in volunteering at a younger age.

The National Honor Society at Woodrow Wilson High School is one of several groups that focuses on improving their communities.

There's also the key club and junior civitans.
