MABSCOTT -- Harvest festivals are a sure sign that Autumn has arrived, and Apple Butter is the focus of a festival in Raleigh County this weekend.
The Mabscott Holiness Church is hosting it's sixth annual Apple Butter Festival. It began at 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009.
Each year Apple Butter is made in a huge copper kettle. Jimmy Kirk, an organizer for the event says there is food, games and entertainment for everyone.
"Great fun, great fellowship," says Kirk, "A lot of work, but the community comes in, they take part of it."
Kirk says the festival will go on rain or shine. Plenty of chairs and covered areas are set up for people to get in out of the west weather.
The festival runs through Saturday September 26.
From 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, free homemade biscuits and samples of apple butter will be served. Then from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. there will be live music.
