WEST LIBERTY -- West Liberty University quarterback Zach Amedro has been named the West Virginia Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
It's the second time in three weeks that Amedro has won the award. West Liberty receiver Kashif Walls won the award last week.
Amedro set new West Liberty records in completions, yards, and total offense when he passed for a season-high, and WVC-high 409 yards in a 35-9 win over Fairmont State.
Amedro completed 30 of 45 passes with four touchdown passes to four different receivers.
Amedro shares the Offensive Player of the Week award with DaRante Hunter, University of Charleston quarterback. Hunter was ultra-efficient in No.20 Charleston's 30-17 at Shepherd. The junior rushed for a game-high 115 yards on 24 carries, while completing 10 of 15 passes for 211 yards and a score. He added touchdown rushes of 5 and 2 yards to increase his Division II-leading total to a dozen on the season
Amedro leads the nation with 19 touchdown passes.
In just his 26th career game, the former John Marshall High School standout put his name at the top of West Liberty’s all-time charts in passing yards (7,566), total offense yards (7,400) and pass completions (531). All three records had been set by Tim Hicks during his time with the Hilltoppers from 1998-2002.
