College students learn about the prevalence of the problem.

BECKLEY -- Beckley's downtown area is now decorated with purple ribbons in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness month.
Concord University students participating in a "Violence in America Class" spent the lunch hour tieing the ribbons around trees.
The students are learning about the prevalence of domestic violence in southern West Virginia.
The purpose of the ribbons is to draw attention to the problem, but also enforce the thought that victims can get help.
"That they can come out and be safe, feel safe. That it's not hush, hush anymore. If you want help, it's available," said Sue Flint, probation officer. The group of students also organized a lunch today with live music.
They also encouraged people to sign what they're calling the "survivor - memory boards."
The tool is used to help domestic violence victims heal.
