Army Reserve Soldiers Prepare for Deployment to Africa

Members of the 400th Military Police unit will take part in humanitarian mission.

BLUEFIELD -- Local members of the U.S. Army Reserve's 400th Military Police unit soon will head to Africa.

A spokesperson at Fort Meade, Md. confirmed that the unit will be sent to Uganda, Kenya,Tanzania and possibly Rwanda.

It's part of a joint humanitarian mission with those countries.

Reservists would help train soldiers andal so support medical and dental care in rural parts of Africa.

The Army Reserve has not confirmed when the soldiers will ship out.

Several members of the 400th MP unit are from the Mercer County area.

Thanks for your article and your interest in our Soldiers.

One clarification; while we are training with personnel from Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya (and Burundi), all the training as well as humanitarian assistance will occur within Uganda.
