LEWISBURG -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall that has been linked to a faulty cruise control deactivation switch.
Risk is high because the switch can cause vehicle fires even with the ignition off.
To date, Ford has recalled roughly 16 million vehicles due to the faulty switch.
Mark Samples, a Ford Sales Manager at Colonial Ford in Lewisburg said he doesn’t think people will worry.
“I think the consumer has gotten used to, and I know this is kind of bad to say, there is 10,000 mechanical parts on a car and some of them do break and not work correctly. As long as the manufacturer addresses it quickly and public support and confidence in the product," said Samples.
The recall involves 4.5 million vehicles, included in the recall are:
• 1995-2003 Ford Windstars • 2000-2003 Ford Excursion diesels • 1993-1997 and 1999-2003 Ford F-Super Duty diesels • 1992-2003 Ford Econolines • 1995-2002 Ford Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers • 1995-1997 and 2001-2003 Ford Rangers • 1994 Ford F53 motorhomes.
Owners of the listed vehicles are encouraged to make an appointment with a dealer to have the problem reviewed.
