Abbs Valley-Boissevain Elementary School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School.

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- A Virginia school has received some national recognition.
This month, Abbs Valley-Boissevain Elementary School in Bluefield, Virginia was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.
Principal, Sharon Smith, accepted the award in Washington, D.C. last week. She says it's an incredible honor for their school that has taken a team effort to achieve.
"Great teaching strategies. We do use best practices here. They are research based. We have a great support program for our parents. Our parents are wonderful in supporting the school through the PTO and volunteering," said Principal Sharon Smith.
There are 135,000 Blue Ribbon School winners nationwide, 321 in the state of Virginia. Abbs Valley Elementary has also been the recipient of the 2007 and 2008 Governor's Award for Educational Excellence.
They are one of three schools in the Commonwealth to receive these awards.
