GLEN JEAN -- Fayette County welcomed the Boy Scouts of America for an official announcement that puts southern West Virginia in the national spotlight.
More than 10,000 acres in the New River Gorge region is now considered a premier scouting destination.
The model for "The Summit" was revealed in Fayette County.
Gov. Joe Manchin along with national boy scout officials were among those in attendance.
Fayette County beat out 32 other states to get the scout designation.
"There's a lot more opportunities and unique with the land. It's not Minnesota, all flat and lakes. This isn't the Rocky Mountains of Northern New Mexico. It's the hills of West Virginia and it's very unique in that way," said National Boy Scout Chief Jack O'Neill.
The S. D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation donated $50 million to fund the project.
Bechtel himself, along with his family also attended the event.
"The Summit" is scheduled to host the National Boy Scout Jamboree in 2013.
