SALEM -- Salem International University named a new head men's basketball coach.
Randy Unger, an assistant at Glenville State College, was named to the position, Thursday.
“We are ecstatic about Coach Unger joining SIU as Head Men’s Basketball Coach,” said Keith Bullion, Director of Athletics at Salem International University. “His past three years at Glenville State has given him first-hand knowledge of our team, our talent, and our university. He is a talented recruiter as well as a coach and we are excited about the integrity and new energy he brings to the Salem Tigers. SIU has a proud tradition of success and we look forward to continuing in that tradition under Coach Unger’s leadership, ” Bullion went on to say.
“Glenville State has been very good to me but this opportunity, at this time, was a situation I felt was a good fit,” Unger said.
Unger will take over on Dec. 3.
He is a graduate of Taylor University, in Indiana and has 23 years experience as a head coach and five years as an assistant coach.
He was also named coordinator of physical education at SIU.
