SOPHIA -- One man was hurt in a Friday morning fire in downtown Sophia.
Firefighters said it appears a waste oil furnace inside AMS Oil, on Main Street in Sophia, caught on fire. It happened around 9:30 a.m. Nov. 20.
According to firefighters, the owner of AMS Oil, Rowan Cook, ran back inside the building and suffered burns. He was flown to a burn unit in Pittsburgh. His condition is unknown.
Four fire departments responded to the scene including crews from Lester, Coal City, Sophia Area and Sophia City.
"We are being very cautious because there are highly flamable oil tanks on this side of the building," said Jeffrey Pittman, Sophia City Fire Chief.
Fire crews were able to put the fire out. Chief Pittman says there was extensive damage to the building.
