BECKLEY -- Top Chef-Delta Style sizzled to the delight of many in Beckley on Sunday.
A dozen chefs from the Beckley-area cooked their best dish in an attempt to be named “top chef.” It was all part of a fundraising event for the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Lisa DeLilly, the chairperson for this event, was pleased to see so many people come out for the event. Each ticket sold meant more money donated to the Josephine M. Crawford Scholarship fund.
“Education is key, we were founded on a college campus by college woman so education is our top priority,” said DeLilly.
A total for ticket sales isn’t known at this time, however it’s estimated roughly $1,000 was made.
While the money raised was a big deal for the sorority, the cooks were just happy to get a chance to showcase their skills. Solon Briggs came out for a second time. With hopes to one day open a restaurant, the opinions of his fellow critics means a lot.
“My recipe, I’ve been playing with it at least three years taking things I’ve known and heart to put it all together,” said Briggs.
