CANCUN, Mexico -- After a Stanford-sized scare, it looks like Kentucky "can do" in Cancun.
Freshman sensation John Wall once again bails UK out in the closing seconds.
This time it came at the charity stripe as opposed to a 15 foot floater.
Stanford's Jarrett Mann had a chance to ice the game in regulation but missed a pair of free throws with nine seconds to play and his team in front, 63-61.
Wall made good on his pair, forcing the game to go into overtime with the score tied at 63.
Kentucky pulled away in the extra session for a 73-65 victory over the Cardinal in the Cancun Classic.
Wall finished with a team-high 23 points.
Huntington-native Patrick Patterson tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.
For the Cardinal, Landry Fields led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Ironically enough, the last time these two schools played, it took more than 40 minutes to decide a winner.
Kentucky beat Stanford, 86-85 in OT in the 1998 Final Four, held in San Antonio, Texas.
Wildcat fans can only hope this season can end up like that one, with Kentucky hoisting an NCAA National Championship.
