BLUEFIELD -- The COFY Coalition also known as Creating Opportunities for Youth held a dinner Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Gary Bowling's House of Art in Bluefield.
The appreciation dinner was held to say thank you to those in the community who support the group's efforts.
"We work on issues that impact the youth and our families," said Michelle Williams, chairwoman.
COFY is comprised of 12 different sectors including parents, civic organizations, law enforcement and members of the medical community.
"What it does is it brings the community together. One of the things we know is that we are going to overcome the challenges in the community especially those involving our youth we need to work together," said Williams.
COFY is now working to build a mentoring program in Mercer County. It will focus on reducing the school drop out rate.
"Young professionals will visit the students and encourage them to stay in school," said Williams.
Anyone interested in supporting COFY can do so by contacting Community Connections in Bluefield.
