BARBOURSVILLE -- This weekend's snowy weather could affect weekend plans for thousands of viewers in our area.
Many residents are hoping to put the finishing touches on their holiday shopping this weekend.
The store manager at the Target in Barboursville said that no matter happens, regardless of whether our area gets one inch, or 12, they'll be constantly working throughout the weekend to make sure that the brave shoppers who make it out this weekend are kept safe.
While the Sun is shining brightly now, preparations for icy conditions are already underway at retailers all over our area, including Target.
"Any time we anticipate any snowy or icy conditions, we make sure that we're always prepared in advance with plenty of materials for our team members and guests," said Target store manager Wes Griffith.
Spencer Adkins, 13 News chief meteorologist, said he hopes shoppers, and anyone else braving the elements, uses extreme caution even during the smallest of precipitation.
"No matter what happens whether it's one inch or twelve, people have to be ready, especially during the one of the busiest shopping times, which I think this weekend is. It will be very slick," Adkins said.
Luckily, the shopping complex where Target's located plows the parking lot, but the store also has its own snow blower handy, and plenty of salt to make sure sidewalks stay clear too. But, what about when shoppers get those slick feet in the doors?
"We actually have a manual extractor is what we call it. And it's actually traffic physically removes the water, from like a vacuum cleaner from the floor, in these high area in the front of the building here to keep people safe inside the store," Griffith said.
While they'll also be taking precautions to prevent mishaps, the Charleston Town Center doesn't have quite as much to deal with.
"You know, the mall will be ready. I mean certainly most of our parking is under cover so we don't really have to sweep our lots, they're covered automatically and then the city of Charleston does an incredible job of keeping the city streets clean," Town Center General Manager Tom Bird said.
Managers said that just to be safe, within an hour of incoming inclement weather they have someone out salting the pavement to prevent freezing.
Although this weekend's weather does look like it could be bad, they say that they still think there will be plenty of shoppers willing to brave the elements.
