Expect poor driving conditions with several inches of snow this weekend.

BECKLEY -- Arctic air is moving into the region for the weekend bringing several inches of snow to the high terrain areas of West Virginia and poor driving conditions in many other areas.

Accumulations will be light for the Beckley, Bluefield area by Sunday with 2 to 6 inches of fluffy snow according to the Stormtracker Meteorologists.

"We want people to be very careful and not focus on the number, but rather on the road conditions themselves. We expect some poor driving conditions due to very little melting along with blowing and drifting snow," said Stormtracker 59 Chief Meteorologist Spencer Adkins.

As much as 5 to 10 inches of snow could fall over the weekend in places like Summersville and Richwood. 2 to 6 inches could fall in places lie Beckley and Bluefield. Winter Weather Advisories will be in effect for Nicholas, Fayette, Raleigh, Wyoming and McDowell Counties while Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for places such as Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Webster and Randolph counties where higher amounts could accumulate above 2,500 feet.

"We expect the worst conditions in the high areas. This isn't heavy snow like the last major storm on the 18th of December, but it will make driving a real trick in some spots, so please use caution if you have to go out," said Adkins.

Temperatures are only expected in the teens in the high terrain and only in the mid 20s in the Metro Valleys areas. Wind chills are expected to be several degrees colder.
